Westport A small but lively town on the west coast, with several restaurants and pubs, and from where there is opportunity for several tours in the region. To the west is Achill, a remote and windy island with miles of walking. The route south to Lennane via Louisburgh winds through the superb Mweelrea Mountains. The misty islands of Clew Bay and the Hill of Croagh Patrick are always in view around Westport. Further north
(80km) at the superb cliffs of Downpatrick Head are The Ceide Fields,
a 5,000 year old farm discovered under blanket bog. |
